Education is the foundation for a healthy and successful life. It opens doors to better opportunities and is directly linked to economic stability and a higher quality of life. The Renegade Fund supports educational opportunities for transgender and nonbinary high school students with direct grants, summer camp scholarships, and workshops.
Summer Camp Scholarships
No matter how supportive or loving parents and siblings may be, being at home isn’t easy for many trans and nonbinary kids. Even in the most supportive households, trans and enby youth deal with intense levels of stress and anxiety at far higher rates than their peers. According to a comprehensive survey by the Human Rights Campaign, 73% of LGBTQ youth feel they can’t be themselves at school, and 40% of transgender youth report feeling depressed most or all of the time. To feel unwelcome, out of place, and constantly judged is a relentless burden.
Summer Camp can be a defining experience for young trans and nonbinary people. The opportunity to join with like minds and hearts is inspiring. The chance to forget about “being different,” to turn down the noise, find peace, and unburden one’s self – even just for a few weeks – can be life changing.

Interlochen is a summer arts camp nestled in the north woods of Michigan. With programs across the arts in music, theatre, visual art, dance, creative writing, film and new media, and interdisciplinary arts, students can hone artistic skills or explore new potential, and all in a most affirming and supportive environment that both welcomes and celebrates individuality and expression.

High School Workshops
The Renegade Fund is excited to offer free workshops for high school students. With topics that cover entrepreneurship, career building, and community organizing, these free workshops are available to schools, after school centers, or other youth organizations.
